What is an SR-22?

The Basics

An SR-22 is a form that is filed electonically with the Secretary of State when you purchase insurance.  It certifies that basic limits of liability for bodily injury and property damage are in force for the insured.

This puts the insured in compliance with the Financial Responsibility Law.  The SR-22 is only needed after specific violations.  The state will notify you when it is necessary.  If the liability policy is cancelled before the required time, the state is notified and the license is revoked.
